Who is Roxxem for?
Anyone who wants to learn a new language by listening to music. Everyone from beginners to advanced learners can get a lot out of Roxxem. Roxxem is also perfect for teachers who want to engage their students with authentic music.
What makes Roxxem different from Duolingo (or X other app)?
There are lots of great language learning apps out there. Roxxem is perfect for people who know some basics and want to take their skills, especially their listening, to the next level. Maybe you started learning with Duolingo, and now you're looking for an app with more authentic cultural content. Roxxem is the ideal supplementary resource to a general curriculum or class. What languages are available on Roxxem?
Spanish, French, German, and Chinese (both Traditional and Simplified). More are coming soon!

Yes, this is part of our Pro Teacher plan.
Will Roxxem add new languages in the future?
Yes, we will. More languages will be coming in 2024.
Who creates your song and word translations?
Every single published song in Roxxem is reviewed by experienced native speakers and language teachers who carefully look over every lyric and word. No Google Translate here! If you find a mistake in any song, please contact us, and we'll fix it.
Are you adding more songs?
We're adding new songs all the time. Eventually, we want to add every song you've ever heard of.
Can I add my own songs to Roxxem?
Yes. Leveraging the power of AI, you can use the Roxxem song editor to add any song from YouTube to Roxxem in just a few minutes, then use that song with your students. (The editor is still in beta, but it's available right now for you to try.)
Does Roxxem support both Traditional and Simplfied Chinese?
Yes. You can toggle between Traditional and Simplified Chinese in your study settings.
I want to sing along to the song, will Roxxem have speaking?
Yes, speaking is coming. You'll be able to do karaoke, answer speaking questions, practice speaking in Arcade Mode, etc.
Can you add feature XYZ?
Yes, we're adding new features to the app every week. We'd love to hear your feedback about what to prioritize.
Teachers
How can I use Roxxem with my students?
Just find a song and then play the music video for your students in class. With Roxxem Live, you can turn the music video into an interactive classroom game where students compete for a high score. You can also share a link to the song so students can listen on their own or play fun study games with it. If you want to assign a song as homework, check our our Pro Teacher plan.
Some songs are inappropriate. Can I control what songs students see?
Yes. Student accounts are restricted to seeing only certain types of songs which the teacher has allowed. (For example, age-appropriate content.) When you create a class, you will be able to control these content settings.
Does Roxxem protect student information?
Roxxem has a strict privacy policy that protects student, teacher, and school information. We fully comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”), as well as New York State's Education Law 2-D. We can sign student data privacy agreements with schools; please contact us at hi@roxxem.com. Roxxem does not have ads.
Do my students need an email address or share their names to create an account?
No. When you invite students to your class, your students have the option to join your class and create an account without sharing any personally identifiable information. Students do not need to provide a email or a name. Instead, they can sign up with only a unique username, which can be a pseudonym, a random combination of letters or numbers, or anything else. Student accounts can only be created via a teacher's class invite link or code.
My school blocks Roxxem for some reason.
Unfortunately, some schools have overly aggressive security policies. There is no reason that Roxxem should be blocked in an educational setting. Please ask your school's tech department to approve the following web addresses: www.roxxem.com, app.roxxem.com, and api.peaksay.com. We can also sign student data privacy agreements with schools; please contact us at hi@roxxem.com.
My students and I are having trouble playing videos.
Roxxem uses an embedded YouTube player to show music videos. If videos don't play, it's probably because a network or browser setting is blocking the YouTube player from working. Please read our Help Center article for detailed solutions.

What are your plans?
Everyone gets the free basic plan with access to all songs. For more advanced and personalized features, you can buy Roxxem Pro. Teachers who want to use Roxxem with their students should get Roxxem Pro Teacher. Find out more.
What does the free plan include?
The entire song library is free, as well as basic lessons and games (including classroom games). For more powerful and personalized features like reviews with spaced repetition, custom study settings, and advanced statistics, upgrade to Roxxem Pro. For teachers who want classes and assignments, upgrade to Roxxem Pro Teacher. Find out more.
Do you have a free trial for subscriptions?
Yes, all new subscribers can try out Roxxem Pro for 2 weeks free before being billed. (Cancel anytime.)
Do you offer group or school plans? Are there discounts for group plans?
Yes, we support plans for groups or schools. For a group of 2-9 teachers, we offer a 10% discount. For 10 or more teachers, we offer a 20% discount. Please contact us at hi@roxxem.com.
If I get a teacher subscription, do my students have to pay?
No, as teachers ourselves, we want Roxxem to be affordable. With one teacher subscription, you get unlimited student accounts.
Can I change plans or cancel my subscription?
You can change or cancel plans at any time. (Use the platform you subscribed with to do so, i.e. the Apple App Store, the Google Play Store, or the Roxxem website.) Please contact us if you would like a refund.
